Activity 3.2.3 – Alternative Energy

Wind Energy

wind energy is a renewable that's based on moving air. wind is produced by the different pressure by the atmosphere and the pressure of the heat. In the article of Introduction to Environmental Science it quotes on how it works "These pressure differentials themselves are largely caused by the temperature difference that result from uneven solar heating across the earth." (Bennett,2018) You can find these at many locations and like solar power it located on the land.

Advantages

Wind power is a clean and renewable energy source Because to provide the energy it doesn't need to burn coal, or it doesn't have to produce toxic gas in the air. It's in the machine powered up and spins at a generator that creates electricity it is beneficial for the community, it's very good pain job for the people in the community and that it's not too expensive to fix once its damage. You could technically locate it to the oceans shore, or it will be able to fit any multi-use surface. Win power is able to help the economics to grow " Wind powers delivered an estimate of two billion dollars in." (Renewable energy,2024)

Limitation

Even though there are plenty of wind turbined that benefits us, there are some limitations to it. Even though it around big areas that has constant wind, it's still a large machine it takes up a lot of room. For an example due to its limitations to the locations some areas are not even sufficient or resourceful to the turbines which makes it hard to get energy. Plus, Because the constant change in winds it's hard to determine if will get enough energy.

Disadvantage

The major disadvantages about having wind turbine are when they do have a major problem because when they break sometimes, they'll start leaking fluids and sometimes it'll catch on fire " A few wind turbines have caught on fire and sub have leaked lubricating through this is relatively rare." (Bennett,2018) Even though wind turbines don't produce major pollutions it still has a noise pollution which affects the people in the animal in the area this is why they specifically try to get the turbines closer to the ocean, so it helps reduce the noise pollution. It also came to a bigger issue when animals like for example birds and bats are getting caught in the wind turbines which is either killing the animals or it's starting to mess up the turbines
