Activity 4.1 – US Environmental History and Major Regulations.
Environmental History
From the article "Sustainability: A comprehensive Foundation" by Tom Theis and Jonathan Tomkins will be discussing about the issues, what we deal with it daily, how it became an issue overtime and how we are going to solve or improve the matter. In chapter 2 we discuss the evolution to the environment policy in the United States, it goes over the basics of the Human dependency from the environment and its system, along with the social network that is put on the media and how it's also being spread, and along with the economics reaction to it. This topic is a global human issue that people should be aware of what's going on a daily basis and how it's affecting both us and the earth. (Theis,17)
We go over the importance of conservation movements, which are discussions that can get controversial like politics or the environmental movement, The environmental risk management which are options on how to help live in a safer and healthier environment for the people and lastly it discusses on the public policy when is group or organization work together to help improve the habits of earth by making it less polluted that way we can coexist with each other. In the article in the mid 1900s there was a group of farmers that were having issues with their props, and they came up with the idea to try different methods along with voicing the issue, so the people were aware of the resource efficiency and how it was affecting everyone. (Theis,17) During the 1800s resources was very limited because even though issues like this does happen it was hard for them to understand what the issue was on, the efficiency wasn't working. A quote I thought was important to mention when the people were having their realization on how important the environment was "It's important to recognize that the transcendental redefining of our social contact with the environment was holistic" meaning once they acknowledged on how much they relied on and explored the environment they started to see the value to many things that came with it. (Theis,21) As we read on, we start to see that they start to expand their views on society because they start to see the feminism, equal gender and many more controversial issues, it shows that they are starting to be more valued. throughout time we see the many events that starts to show the lives were being treated, like for example in the 1900s for the Contaminations risk we see how medicine was not as advance, which many people end up dying due to the lack of health and for the diseases being spread. The examples they give us is examples like the Texas dust storm and the Clear-cutting Louisiana in 1930. (Theis, 28) Risk Management was the more informative because of how they start to improve the health policy for everyone. After seeing how people's health was in danger due to the chemicals the chemicals that was around them, the policy purpose is to make sure the work environment and the people work in harmony so that the economy can last through generations.(Theis,32) In the chart it gives us a better view on what we improved on throughout the years, starting with our air to our water.
